On Saturday, March 7, 2015, Widerman Malek, PL Attorneys attended the Junior Achievement Business Hall of Fame Event in Melbourne, Florida. The Business Hall of Fame is an event that honors entrepreneurs for their achievements. This year’s honorees were Mike Shah of Southeast Petro, and Carol Craig of Craig Technologies. Their stories of success were inspiring and their dedication and generosity to our community is something that all of us should strive for. Widerman Malek, PL proudly congratulates Mike Shah and Carol Craig on being inducted as Laureates into the Junior Achievement Business Hall of Fame. In attendance at the event from Widerman Malek, PL were attorneys Scott Widerman, Mark Malek, Aaron Thalwitzer and Kelly Swartz.

On Friday March 6, 2014, Brevard PALS held their annual wine tasting event. PALS is an organization in Brevard County that “Provides Autism Links and Supports” and is associated with the University of Central Florida. The event was hosted by Mark and Aileen Malek, who are pictured above along with Widerman Malek, PL Paralegal Michelle Crees and Dayne Barrow. The event was a resounding success and provided attendees with great information on the advances that Brevard PALS has made and how their services touch the lives of those affected by Autism. Widerman Malek, PL Attorneys Dan Pierron and Mark Malek attended the 2015 Association of University Technology Managers (AUTM) Annual Meeting held in New Orleans from February 22 to February 25. AUTM is a network of professionals that generate innovations, license and develop innovations, and provide various services to organizations to help monetize those innovations. The annual meeting provided Dan and Mark opportunities to learn more about the various ways that Universities can monetize their innovations. The AUTM staff is thanked for putting on such a great event.

Mark Malek and Dan Pierron had the opportunity to meet with Tatsuya Sawada of Sugimura Intellectual Property Services during the IP Practice in Japan session of the AIPLA mid-winter conference.  Mr. Sawada is the Managing Partner of the Palo Alto office of SugimuraSugimura is a patent and trademark law firm based in Tokyo Japan.  Under the leadership of Mr. Sugimura, the firm has expanded their presence into the United States.  The president of the firm, Mr. Sugimura, as well as Ms. Baba hosted Mr. Malek in Tokyo in November 2014 during his tour of the Japanese Patent Office and meetings with Japanese patent clients that the firm services in the United States.  Widerman Malek looks forward to a fruitful relationship with Sugimura IP Services.

On Monday, January 26, a delegation from the Brazil-Florida Chamber of Commerce (BFCC) visited the offices of Widerman Malek to begin planning for a trip by representatives from Widerman Malek to Brazil. Jefferson Michaelis, Ricardo Barbosa, Daivies Deivis Furlan, and Jasmine Staff of the BFCC joined Mark Malek and Dan Pierron of the firm in planning the trip. Tentatively scheduled for April 8-14, the trip will include presentations to be made in the cities of São Paulo, São José dos Campos, and Campenis to members of the technology industry, research universities, and Brazilian attorneys. The presentations will be focused on intellectual property considerations, corporate considerations and licensing considerations for Brazilian companies interested in entering the U.S. market. Widerman Malek thanks the BFCC for their overwhelming support and assistance in planning this trip.
