Widerman Malek, PL is seeking a Guardianship/Elder Law Legal Assistant to support the team’s busy guardianship practice in our Melbourne office. The position is ideal for a candidate seeking meaningful responsibility and long-term growth opportunities.
This role focuses primarily on guardianship administration, court filings, and statutory reporting requirements, with occasional support on related elder law matters. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing court-driven deadlines and sensitive matters involving families and vulnerable individuals.
Candidates with 2+ years of guardianship experience from a private law firm, a probate court division, a professional guardian’s office, or an elder law practice are strongly encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities include:
- Assist attorneys with matters from initial petition through ongoing administration
- Prepare and file petitions, annual plans, inventories, accountings, and required guardianship reports
- Track statutory deadlines and court reporting requirements
- Maintain case files, calendars, and electronic docketing systems
- Communicate with clients, courts, opposing counsel, and professional guardians
- Schedule hearings and file documents with the court
- Assist with evidentiary hearings and contested guardianship proceedings when needed
- Ensure compliance with Florida guardianship statutes and court deadlines
- Enter billable and non-billable administrative time spent on matters
Qualifications
- 2+ years of guardianship experience required, either in a private law firm or within a guardianship court
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines
- Professional communication skills and a client-focused approach
- Experience with court filings and legal case management systems
