Widerman Malek Scott Widerman and Mark Malek met in their second year of law school.  Mark was a night student while Scott was a full time day student.  Scott decided to take one night class to get ahead and an instant friendship was born.  After graduation, Scott moved back to his native Brevard County to start practicing law, while Mark remained in Orlando working as a patent attorney.  Scott’s focus was on land use law and civil litigation, with an emphasis on business litigation.  Mark and Scott would get together often after graduation and as they both became more experienced in their respective practice areas, discussions about working together began.  Mark was enamored with Brevard County and had a desire to move there to take advantage of all that it had to offer.  During one of their many weekend family gatherings in Cocoa Beach, Mark and Scott decided to “give it a go.”  They sat down and made a list of all the things about the typical law firm that they did not like, and started formulating a plan on how to have a law firm that addressed everything on the list.  The law firm began in October 2003, and like any business, the law firm has seen its ups and downs (many more ups than downs).  Scott and Mark continue the culture that they set out to create in 2003, and have been fortunate enough to be joined by several like-minded and very talented attorneys that make Widerman Malek what it is today.
