Goodbye DUNS, Hello SAMMI

image_pdfView PDF

In November 2020, DUNS will be replaced by the Sam Managed Identifier (SAMMI) which will also be known as the Unique Entity Identifier (UEI).

While the DUNS was proprietary to Dun and Bradstreet, the new number will now be owned by the Government.  This will allow for this service to be competitively sought in the future.  The initial provider of the service will be Ernst and Young which was awarded a five-year contract to manage the new system.

Companies that are currently registered with SAMMI will automatically be assigned a UEI which should start showing up on your SAMMI registration in November of 2020.  Companies registering after the start date of the new system will be assigned a UEI.  While DUNS numbers will be retained for search and reference purposes, they will no longer be issued.

If you would like to keep track of the transition to the new system, the GSA has published a web page called “Unique Entity Identifier Update”.  Please contact a member of our Government Contracts team if you have any questions or if you need any assistance.
