Decrease in Patent Cooperation Treaty Fees

In the world we live in with record inflation and price increases, the United States Patent and Trademark Office has announced that the fees associated with certain filings for the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) have decreased effective January 1, 2023. The complete US Patent Office fee schedule can be found here.

The specific fees that will be decreasing are associated with PCT fees to foreign offices. The decreases are as follows:

  • 1701: International filing fee (first 30 pages – filed electronically without ePCT or PCT-EASY .zip file) – fee decrease from $1,329 to $1,245
  • 1710: International filing fee (first 30 pages – filed electronically with ePCT or PCT-EASY .zip file) – fee decrease from $1,221 to $1,144
  • 1702: International filing fee (first 30 pages) – fee decrease from $1,437 to $1,346
  • 1703: Supplemental fee (for each page over 30) – fee decrease from $16 to $15
  • 1704: International search, European Patent Office (EPO) as International Searching Authority (ISA) – fee decrease from $1,816 to $1,734
  • 1715: International search, Israel Patent Office (ILPO) as ISA – fee decrease from $1,065 to $1,014
  • 1712: International search, IP Australia (IPAU) as ISA – fee decrease from $1,502 to $1,419
  • 1717: International search, Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS) as ISA – fee decrease from $1,652 to $1,561
  • 1716: International search, Japan Patent Office (JPO) as ISA – fee decrease from $1,250 to $1,167
  • 1709: International search, Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) as ISA – fee decrease from $881 to $826
  • 1705: Handling fee – fee decrease from $216 to $202
  • 1706: Handling fee – 90% reduction, if applicant meets criteria specified on the WIPO table. – fee decrease from $21.60 to $20.20
